Creating a New Character
Once you have downloaded the game, run the installer, and launched the game you will come to the login screen enter you login details and select the sever you wish to play on. Once you have pressed the “Connect” button you will see a screen that looks like this:
You will then be taken to the character creation screen. This looks like the picture below:
At this point you will be able to establish the details of your character’s appearance and statistics. Follow these steps:
1. Create a name for your character and type it into the name box. Your name must contain only letters, without spaces. In the example below, we have included a space in order to demonstrate what would happen in the event of an invalid name.
2. Choose if you want your character to be male or female (in the example below we have chosen a female character).
3. Select from one of eight different faces, twenty-one different hairstyles and colors, and three different styles of beginner’s wardrobe.
4. You are then given 10 Chi Points to allocate across your statistics: Strength, Essence, Wisdom, Constitution and Dexterity. Adding points to strength will mean that your character does greater damage when she hits. Points in essence will mean greater Vital Energy, points in wisdom will mean greater Chi Kung capability, and points in constitution will mean that your character has higher Life. Lastly, points in dexterity will increase your character’s probability of successfully hitting or dodging in combat. As you gain experience in the The Land, you will obtain more Chi Points to distribute. And very occasionally you will be given the opportunity to redistribute these points.

5. Select the area of The Land where you wish to begin the game. Each area is located near the headquarters of a specific major clan and the easiest way to start is to begin near the clan you most wish to join. You may travel between the areas if you change your mind and wish to join a different clan. But beware! It is quite dangerous outside the cities these days unless you know some strong kung fu!
6. Finally, click on the “Create a Character” button.
In this example, we were given a dialogue box asking us to change anything that might be wrong. (Remember our space in the character’s name?) After revising the name till it becomes valid, we come to the next screen shown below. Click on the “Yes” button to confirm the character’s creation.
This will take you back to the main screen, except now you have a character to begin the game with. Click on the “Start 9Dragons” button.

After a brief loading screen…
…you are now in the game! Your new character is ranked as a wandering Vagabond, with no allegiances whatsoever. You are free to explore The Land as you wish. Good luck on your path, Grasshopper, and…
