Visit the Tree stump and talk to it ( I know slightly Mad) You will see it has been cleanly cut down, once you have observed this return to Xu.

Return to Xu he will tell you that it was master Lingyun who cut the tree down (seems Longfeng was Lying out right) He tells you that even a great swordsman must practice before giving you the reward of 43 Exp.
